EK82 is a handball club based in East Kilbride, Scotland and is a member of the Scottish Handball Association.

April Player of the Month

A tough decision as always with players doing their best on and off the court this month I had to make a choice for a stand out player. I hope you would all agree that in the past month and over the season Jo McKenna has been there pushing hard despite the accident and recovery from injury she had to deal with. Getting the all clear from injury she has shown consistently determined performances attacking and defending as well as a commendable commitment to training and learning the game. I know everyone is with me in saying that we hope her recovery to full fitness continues as well as gaining confidence for the benefit of the team.

40 Years of EK Handball

This year like every we want to celebrate those that have worked hard for the club either in games or support. It is also an extra special year being 30 years since 1982 and East Kilbride's most successful year in which the club played European Handball against German Bundesliga outfit THW Kiel. It is also 40 years since handball began in East Kilbride so we ask players of all eras, friends and families to buy tickets and come along. Tickets are £5 per person or £10 for a family ticket. Plan for the evening is to have a fun race night and socialise like handballers do. Hope to see you there and if you can help in any way to making this night happen we need you like ever.

Players Selected to represent Scotland in Sweden & Support Night

It is always a proud moment to represent your country at whatever the sport or discipline. We would like to recognise all the children and families for their commitment to Handball over the years we have been running. This year at the Partille Cup in Sweden once again will have young men and women from East Kilbride playing against teams from all over the world and showing we can play handball against anyone. Knowing them they are doing us proud already but I would say to watch out for anything new they see and keep looking to improve on the things they do.

If you wish to support these young adults in their adventures with national squads fund raising is under way. There will be an evening on Saturday 16th June from 19:30 until late at East Kilbride Sports Club, G75 0QZ. It looks to be a great night once again with Janie and "A Band Called Wanda" entertaining us all.

March Player of the Month

For a person to be missed they need to bring a lot to what they do. Kim as this month's player of the month brings a lot of energy, passion and fun to the club. Rarely complaining about the tough stuff Kim's commitment to the community we make up is a credit to his attitude. This month has seen some tough games and Kim step up to help in any way he can. For our young players coming through if you can look to the Player's of the months selected for things to take on Kim has a lot to emulate.

Social Sat 18th February

We are having our second social in the Calderwood Inn. If you can bounce, catch or throw a ball you qualify as a handballer and we would like all those over 18 there from 7 til late for another good night!...If you can't catch, bounce or throw a ball might as well come for the laugh anyway.

EK82 Socials

The 28th January signalled not only a good day on court for the ladies but the first of the club get togethers in the evening.
Thank you to all those that made the evening at the Calderwood Inn for the pub quiz as well as the venue which has supported the senior club throughout it's existence. Not just a fund raiser to support senior court hire and expenses like the previous tournament in September participants had fun and left with prizes kindly donated by local business.
Hope all enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next on the 18th February.

January 2012 Player of the Month

Happy to say January Player of the Month goes to one of the people with the best attitude in the club. Cats has since starting tried her best in training and in games regardless of the situation and her effort is paying off for the team. Weighing in 8 goals for the ladies against Tryst she also put in a solid performance against Glasgow recently.
On another note I hope that players can look to emulate cats positive and sporting approach to being involved continuing to look to improve.

Update Child Protection Policy

Now that we have a number of juniors playing and training with the adults, we felt that this was a good time to update everyone on the child protection within the club. New government guidlines on the use of social network sites suggests that all adults and coaches involved with U16s should avoid adding minors to there list of friends. This is to stop the u16s reading/seeing something inappropriate that is said or shared amoungst adults. As a result of this, as a club policy we would ask that all Adult players remove the u16s from their friends list and we would take it as far as asking that no adult has a u16s players phone number on their phone. Michael and Andy should be the only ones with the parents contact details for all players. By doing this we can prevent and protect both the adults and the juniors from any potential risks and misunderstanding.
If you feel you would like more information or suggestions or you would like to disscus this further, please feel free to contact Michael, Andy or Gillian Stewart the Child Protection Officer and we will arrange a suitable time to meet.

Happy New Year

Just a wee message from the club to say we all hope you have a great 2012. Whether you are a person visiting our site, a member or even part of the GB set-up that this year works for you.

Please remember also if you would like to come along to a training session to enjoy the social side and find out about the sport you're more than welcome. We always offer our first session free so you can come and try it.
